서론 소개 및 찬성 vs 반대 표현

 

 

TOEFL writing 독립형의 경우 어떠한 주제를 가지고 그것에 대한 찬성 또는 반대의 의견을 제시하면서 글을 이어가나는 방식입니다. 그래서 많은 reading을 통해서 topic에 관한 찬/반 내용을 brainstorming 하는 것도 중요하고, 찬성과 반대의 의견을 제시해 나가는 방식도 중요합니다. 여기서는 기본적으로 서론-본론-결론 으로 구성되는 글의 서론 부분에서 어떻게 찬성과 반대의 의견을 제시할 수 있는지, 그 표현에 대해서 소개합니다.

 

 

서론의 구성요소

• Opening statement
• Thesis statement

즉 'Opening + 주장 + 이유' 가 서론을 구성한다.

 

1) What is the opening statement?

일반적인 의견을 제시한다. (글의 서론을 열어주는 역할)

ex) Some people argue that movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects.

 

 

2) What is the thesis statement?

논점에 대한 본인의 의견(찬성/반대)를 밝히고 그에 대한 이유를 설명한다.

ex) As far as I am concerned, I strongly agree with the statement that movies and television contain more disadvantages than advantages. This is because they have an influence on not only violent behaviors but also consumers' impulsive consumption.

서론은 주장을 나타내는 뼈대를 드러내준다. 서론에서 본인의 의견이나 주장을 먼저 드러내면서 나중에 이어질 글에 대한 방향성을 제시하고 명확하게 해준다.

 

 

<찬성 (Agree)>

I can see no reason to oppose + N

 

 

 

ex)

I strongly agree with the statement that Most advertisements make the product seem better than they appear.

I strongly agree with the statement that friends with teen years have the most important influence on people's lives.

I share the opinion that higher education should be restricted to students with great grades.

I can see no reason to oppose the idea that people should follow the customs of the country which they live in.
