1. I'm sorry to ~ (~해서 죄송해요)

 

상대방에게 폐나 실례가 될 수 있는 행동에 대해 사과할 때 쓰는 표현입니다. 잘못된 행동이나 말에 대해 양해를 구하거나, 미안함을 나타낼 때 유용하게 쓸 수 있습니다.

 

■ 예시

A: I'm sorry to give you some bad news.
B: What is it?
A: The party is delayed until next Saturday.
B: I see. I'll let everyone know that.

 

■ 예문

I'm sorry to call you late at night.	밤늦게 전화드려서 죄송해요.
I'm sorry to fail to rehearse enough.	충분히 리허설을 안 해서 죄송해요.

2. Sorry for not ~ (~못해서 죄송해요)

 

전치사 for 다음에는 보통 동사의 -ing 형태가 오는데 여기서는 not을 붙여 부정이 되었죠. 자신이 하지 못 했거나 잘못한 일에 대해 미안한 마음을 전하며 사과하고 싶을 때 쓰는 표현입니다.

 

■ 예시

A: I was so worried about you.
B: Sorry for not calling earlier.
A: Why didn't you call me?
B: My phone battery died all of a sudden.
