There is no time to ~ / There is no way that ~

1. There is no time to ~ (~할 시간이 없어요)

 

여기서 time은 어떤 일을 하는 데 들어가는 시간을 의미해요. 우리말에서 '그럴 여유'없어 라고 할 때의 '여유'와 비슷한 뉘앙스라고 생각하면 되죠. We have no time to ~ 도 같은 의미입니다.

 

■ 예시

A: You look exhausted.
B: I've been up all night studying for my finals.
A: You should take a nap.
B: There is no time to sleep.

 

■ 예문

There is no time to waste.	낭비할 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to take a break.	휴식을 취할 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to enjoy small talk.	잡담을 즐길 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to stop.	멈출 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to sleep.	잠잘 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to spare.	낼 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to explain why.	이유를 설명할 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to put on makeup.	화장할 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to just hang around.	그저 어슬렁거릴 시간이 없어요.
There is no time to take the patient to the hospital.	그 환자를 병원에 데려갈 시간이 없어요.

 

 

 

2.  There is no way that ~ (~할 방법이 없어요, ~일 리 없어요)

 

'절대 안돼!', '설마!'. '그럴리가!' 이 모든 말이 No way! 한 마디면 되죠. no way는 말 그대로 방법이 없다는 뜻이에요. 그래서 There is no way that~ 은 어떤 일이 불가능하다고 말할 때 사용해요.

 

■ 예시

A: There is no way that we're getting home tonight.
B: Why not?
A: Look outside!
B: Wow! It's snowing heavily.

 

■ 예문

There is no way that this will work.	이것이 효과가 있을 리 없어요.
There is no way that we'll make it on time.	우리가 정시에 도착할 방법이 없어요.
There is no way that you can avoid some responsibility for this.	이 일에 대해 당신이 책임을 피할 방법이 없어요.
There is no way that you can get a job.	당신이 일자리를 구할 방법이 없어요.
