1. I'm sorry to hear that  ~ (~라니 유감이네요/안타깝네요)

 

안 좋은 소식을 듣고 안타까운 마음을 표현하고자 할 때 스는 패턴입니다. 상황에 따라 뜻이 조금씩 다르지만 '마음이 아프다', '유감이다', '섭섭하다' 등의 뜻으로 이해하면 됩니다.

 

■ 예시

A: Have you heard about Mary?
B: Yes. I heard that she has stomach cancer.
A: I'm sorry to hear that she's not well.
B: I think we'd better visit her soon.

 

■ 예문

I'm sorry to hear that I'm not welcomed.	내가 환영받지 못 하다니 유감이네요.

2.  I feel sorry for ~(~가 안됐어요)

 

힘들고 어렵거나 불행한 상황에 처해 있는 사람에 대해 동정이나 연민, 안타까움을 나타내는 표현이에요. feel 대신 be동사를 써서 I'm sorry for~ 라고 해도 된답니다.

A: Both teams played really well.
B: I feel sorry for the losing team.
A: So do I.
B: At least it was a close game.
